Awareness: What Does It Do?

This thread is for those of you who constantly complain that players on other teams always perform disproportionately better than their own. I know the only stat most people (i.e. Bandit & Bonzi) look for is speed, totally bypassing one of Madden's most important stats which is awareness. Per Madden, here are the main areas Awareness affects.

On Defense for all positions, AWR helps players in a few areas.
- They don't bite on P/A as quick/hard.
- They read routes better and can play their defender's closly.
- That can lead to better chance of Picks, and under cutting routes / jumping in front of plays
- LB's distinguish between run or pass players quicker.
- DB can determine if the Wr is going longer easier, and may help them get that one step to defend it.

For Offense....
- WR, mainly for option plays where WR has a choice of routes too pick from.. Higher the AWR, the more often he will run the best route.. leaving him more open!
- QB, help him lead WR alot better then a QB with terrible AWR.
- OL, the better AWR, the better they pick up blitzes. This also goes for the FB and TE's.
- TE, as well for Run/Pass Blocking and picking up blitzes, but also for option routes.

So for those of you who load your team up with speed at the expense of AWR, stop bitching that your team doesn't play as well as those of us who value awareness. It matters just as much as speed.
